The look of Jazz in the Park in 2017

Jazz in the Park, the festival that gave the Central Park back to the residents of Cluj City, will expand and develop next year: it will take over the entire city and it will grow according to three priorities – music, size and community impact.
We are preparing several changes for the 5th edition: we are developing a series of concerts with ticket entrance, held by important names of the music industry, the Jazz in the Street concept will be integrated into the festival, and art will go on the streets, through dozens of artistic performances, and theme parties and community involvement activities will be organized. These will supplement the free entrance concerts from the Central Park and the Someș River bank, which will remain an important part of the festival.

The development of a ticket entrance component is intended to develop the Romanian jazz market, by bringing famous names of the jazz world to Cluj:  Dhafer Youssef, Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra, Susana Baca. Another news is the organization of theme parties. Furthermore, the festival’s organizers are preparing a unique community involvement campaigns, through the Jazz in the Park Fund.

100 artists are expected at Jazz in the Park
The concerts held on the Someș River bank and the Central Park will have free entrance, while access at the concerts at the Hungarian Opera and the parties will be based on tickets. In total, next year, approximately one hundred artists are expected at Jazz in the Park, including Jojo Mayer & Nerve, Skalpel, Viva Vox and many more.

“Besides from the concerts in the Central Park and the Someș River bank, we will have concerts with important jazz artists, concerts held in venues where access will be based on tickets. This structure will allow us to bring important names in the industry and reward our most passionate fans. Also, we will integrate the Jazz in the Street concept into the festival. It will no longer last one day, but 6 out of 7 days. Here, we will have over 50 artists who will animate the Old Town. The Central Park will remain the heart of the festival, and the Someș River bank has earned its identity as competition area. The Central Park will be active for three days, during the weekend, and it will look better than ever”, says Alin Vaida, director of the Jazz in the Park Festival.
For the 5th edition, the organizers aim to develop the Romanian jazz market and promote young talents, but also to get involved more in the community, through the Jazz in the Park Fund.

“I almost can’t believe that we made it to the 5th edition. I’m glad that, in such a short time, we managed to become a benchmark for both the city and jazz music. It is our duty to keep going, to continue to push our limits and try to do things better. So, starting with the following edition, we will be present throughout the city and we will highlight the festival’s musical development, the idea that this festival must be a launch pad for many musicians and, last but not least, the idea of using the festival’s power in order to intervene into the community, to leave something behind.” – claims Alin Vaida

The Jazz in the Park Fund, an initiative through which the organizers of Jazz in the Park support community involvement, will continue next year, and the cause which will receive the money raised from selling non-mandatory tickets will be announced at the beginning of the year.
