One of the most appreciated Romanian bands in the world, Fanfare Ciocârlia, the first headliner announced at Jazz in the Park 2018. The festival, extended to 11 days

11 days of live music, with international and Romanian bands: this is our proposal for the sixth edition of the Jazz in the Park Festival, which will take place in Cluj, on June 21st – July 1st, 2018. Today, the first bands confirmed for next year’s edition were announced: Fanfare Ciocârlia, Moonlight Breakfast, A-C Leonte, JazzyBIT, Antal Gabor Trio.
The first renowned name at Jazz in the Park 2018 is Fanfare Ciocârlia, the band that amazed the audience with its Balcan, exuberant, dynamic and lively style.

The band has performed in some of the most well-known music festivals in the world and has had concerts almost all over the Globe, from the United States of America, to Europe and Asia. The fanfare members are considered pioneers of the Balkan Brass and Balkan Beats genres, and their unique style made them internationally famous. Furthermore, their album “Onwards To Mars” received the award for the best European album released in 2017 at the Songlines Music Awards. Moreover, Fanfare Ciocârlia received several international awards, and their music is the soundtrack for several cinema productions.
The Fanfare Ciocârlia concert will take place on Sunday, July 1st, in the Central Park of Cluj.

“Doing the line-up for Jazz in the Park is both challenging and fun. In time, we managed to consolidate a style, namely to bring many new projects on the Romanian market, and also many experiments. We have all sorts of ideas for next year too, because the jazz market is very innovative. In 2018, we will pay particular attention to high quality Romanian projects, but for sure, there will be important international names and projects unseen in our country. We’re glad we managed to bring Fanfare Ciocârlia. This is a project requested by many fans, and the band has never performed in Cluj in a setting so accessible and open to all. This will be a night to remember”, says Alin Vaida, Festival Director.

In the park, we’re also going to be listening to: Moonlight Breakfast, A-C Leonte, JazzyBIT, Antal Gabor Trio
Another band which was confirmed for Jazz in the Park 2018 is Moonlight Breakfast, one of the few Romanian bands that have managed to stand out as an important name on the European music scene. The band’s style is fresh, electro, beat, nu-Jazz and swing. Their concert will take place in the Central Park of Cluj, on June 30th, 2018.

Among next year’s performers, there will also be A-C Leonte, the band signing Reveries, a project combining jazz with electronic, psychedelic and experimental music, in a sound journey where everything is possible, through vocal harmonies, electronic textures and collective improvisations. Ana-Cristina Leonte is one of the most important singers, composers and leading members of the band, belonging to the new generation of Romanian music, and has won numerous awards in jazz competitions.

The JazzyBIT trio brings to the festival an energetic combination of jazz and rock, with blues, Latin and funk influences. The band received the debut award from the Muzza Foundation in Bucharest, reached 9th place in the controversial “Muzici și Faze” Romanian top and had over 100 concerts in the country and abroad. The concert will take place on June 30th.
The first day of concerts in the Central Park will be opened Thursday, June 28th, by the winners of the Jazz in the Park Competition, Antal Gabor Trio. This year, they released their first album, Whirl, containing nine of their own creations, and the band’s performances are live improvisations, melodic themes, modern rhythm elements and a varied ambiance.

11 days of Jazz in the Park: 3 days on the river bank, 4 days in the park, concerts in venues and on the streets
From seven days, the festival will extend to 11 days next year. Thus, the Jazz in the Park International Competition will take place, for the first time, during the weekend, Friday to Sunday, during the period June 22nd – June 24th, 2018. Concerts with tickets and street performances will follow, and for four days, the concerts will be held on the Central Park stages, from Thursday, June 28th, until Sunday, July 1st.

The sixth Jazz in the Park edition brings positive changes to the structure we’ve had for three years already. The festival will be extended to 11 days, in order to avoid overlapping events or locations. Thus, each day of festival will highlight a particular topic.

Also, we added one more day to the activities from the Central Park. We will also have concerts with tickets in the Cluj venues, a day dedicated to street art and the international jazz competition on the Somes River Bank.
Jazz in the Park will take place during the period June 21st – July 1st, 2018 in the Central Park of Cluj, on the River Bank and in concert venues.

The entrance to events held on the public domain is free, based on non-mandatory tickets, and for venue concerts, subscriptions will be put up for sale.

The Jazz in the Park Festival is organized by Fapte, co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration and supported by the Cluj-Napoca City Hall. Main partner: Staropramen.
