The New Year has begun with some of the greatest news, as Jazz in the Park won the title of Europe’s Best Small Festival 2019 at the European Festival Awards in Groningen. It hasn’t been an easy journey, as each new edition has its own challenges, but 2019 was definitely one of our greatest years so far. Jazz in the Park #7 meant a lot of things:
- We changed the whole structure of the festival, separating it in two big events: the Jazz in the Park Competition, which took place at the beginning of May, and the festival itself, which took place at the beginning of July;
- We reduced the duration of the festival, from 11 days in 2018, to 4 days in 2019.
- We focused even more on the artists we’re willing to bring in Cluj, and that resulted in creating the best line-up in the history of our festival so far, with names like Marcus Miller, Judith Hill or Ghost-Note among the headliners.
- We brought more musical content, such as the Estelio Audition Room, the Yamaha Drum Camp or the vinyl room, thus bringing people closer to music and its magic. Seeing all the enthusiasm and receiving all that positive feedback, we plan to do more similar activities at Jazz in the Park #8.
But the results were accordingly. Around 8.000 people enjoyed the Marcus Miller concert at the opening night, we managed to raise the largest amount of money in the Jazz in the Park Fund (18.000 Euros) and we had four days of full sunshine, great vibes and a lot of activities for our audience. It was really amazing and we know this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our partners and friends, volunteers and colleagues and, last but not least, the people who keep coming to the park for some jazzy vibes every year. Besides being Europe’s Best Small Festival, our voice was heard at the Romanian PR Award as well, where we received the Silver Award for our campaign ‘You don’t have to do it. But it would be nice, though (Nu ești obligat să o faci. Dar e bine și frumos)’, realised for the Jazz in the Park Fund. It’s been a fantastic journey up to this point, and we can’t wait for Jazz in the Park #8 already.
